Treatment Procedures
Diagnosis and Risk Assessment: A thorough evaluation, including blood tests, bone
marrow biopsy, and genetic testing, is conducted to confirm the diagnosis of AML and assess the risk
category of the disease.
Chemotherapy: The mainstay of AML treatment involves induction chemotherapy, which aims
to achieve remission by destroying leukemic cells in the bone marrow. Consolidation chemotherapy may
follow induction to further reduce the risk of relapse.
Targeted Therapy: In some cases, targeted therapy drugs may be used to specifically
target and inhibit certain molecular pathways involved in AML growth. These drugs may be used alone
or in combination with chemotherapy, depending on the patient's genetic mutations.
Stem Cell Transplantation: For eligible patients, allogeneic stem cell transplantation
may be recommended as a curative treatment option. This procedure involves replacing the patient's
diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells from a compatible donor.
